Nymphea - loire valleyCanal Barge in France
"We loved the pace, food and the fact that our tour was basically private.
I had always wanted to see the chateau country but couldn't figure out
how to go about it. This was absolutely perfect!

itinerary - Moulin de Nitray to Montrichard
SUNDAY - Moulin de Nitray
We moor at the Moulin de Nitray, an easy 55 minute high speed rail journey from Paris, and when you arrive we’ll welcome you with a glass of champagne, tell you a bit about the itinerary and then sit you down and let our chef take over – your taste buds are in for a real treat. You are met at the designated meeting point and transferred to Nymphea where a “Champagne Welcome” awaits you at our mooring opposite the 17th century Moulin de Nitray. Dinner on board.
MONDAY - Moulin de Nitray to Larcay
After cruising through two looks we moor up at the quaint little town of Larcay where we lunch under the weeping willows. After lunch it’s Châteaux o’clock as we drive to Villandry with its world-famous renaissance gardens. Aperitifs and dinner back on Nymphea.
TUESDAY - Larcay to Vallet
After a morning cruise past no less than six private chateaux, we tie up opposite the hamlet of Vallet, a cluster of classic "tourangeau" architecture grouped around its 18th century mill. From there we leave for our excursion by minibus to Amboise on the banks of the Loire, where we visit the Royal Chateau D’Amboise and the Clos Luce, Leonardo Da Vinci’s home. Dinner on board.
WEDNESDAY - Vallet to Chissay en Touraine
There are many private Châteaux along this waterway and the only real way to get any real glimpse of them is from the river itself – have your cameras ready as we cruise to the hamlet of Valet with its classic Tourangeau architecture and 18th century watermill. After lunch on board we travel to Amboise to see its Royal Château and the Clos Luce which was the home of Leonardo da Vinci. Dinner is served back on board.
THURSDAY - Chissay en Touraine to Montrichard
A morning cruise takes us towards the troglodyte village of Bourré. We tie up at the lock, a short walk from which is one of the more unusual dwellings in the Loire Valley, La Magnaneraie. The Coquillat family have grown up in this hillside troglodyte habitation, which has been in turn wine cellar, quarry for the tuffeau stone, and lastly a silkworm nursery. After lunch we drive east to Valencay, one of the most splendid chateaux of the Loire and the home of Napoleon’s foreign minister, Talleyrand. Returning to the barge we cruise to Montrichard where we moor for the night. Dinner on board.
FRIDAY - Montrichard to Nitray
It’s a prompt start as Montrichard holds one of the best and busiest street markets in Touraine and we wouldn’t want you to miss that. Whilst here we wander around the 12th century Château of Foulques Nerra with its dungeon overlooking the medieval town square. If we make good time we can visit our friends the Meriau family to taste their regional Touraine vintages. After lunch we turn downstream, pass once again under the walls of Chenonceau, and arrive at Nitray in time to visit the Château and ‘English Rose Garden. Farewell dinner this evening.
SATURDAY - Nitray to St Pierre des CorpsAfter breakfast disembark, and return the designated drop off point.
On alternate weeks the cruise will be in the reverse direction. This is a sample itinerary and is subject to change.
