I had the privilege of staying on board Savoir Vivre for a few nights and really appreciated Savoir Vivre 's concept of proposing breakfast and lunches on board while taking guests out to the restaurant each night. The ideal way to discover genuine French restaurant's atmosphere and food. Cabins on board are comfortable, beds excellent and bathrooms immaculate with full size shower. Remember to keep shower door fully open to have more space. With Richard at the helm, Amina, your hostess and Laura as tour guide, a cruise on Savoir Vivre is ideal to get a taste of Burgundy.
THE 8 PASSENGER BARGE savoir vivre
Breakfast and lunch on board Savoir Vivre, but eat every dinner at local and charming bistros. The dinner's venues are all local, off the beaten tourist path. We have carefully selected restaurants which are of a high standard and are renowned for their ambient atmosphere. This gives guests an authentic dining experience through Burgundy! The barge Captain makes all reservations and provides transportation to and from these venues. After a personal introduction to the bistro owner and a review of the menu by the captain, guests will comfortably order their own meals.
itinerary - FLEURY-SUR-OUCHE to ESCOMMES
SUNDAY - We'll Meet You in Dijon
Private pick-up in Paris or Dijon. Your driver will chauffeur you to Savoir Vivre moored in Fleury-sur-Ouche, a classic village nestled on the Canal de Bourgogne. We can also pick you up in the lobby of your local Dijon hotel. Enjoy a champagne welcome as you are introduced to your crew for the week. There will be time to unpack and explore before your first on-shore dinner at a local, friendly and refined restaurant - "Auberge Les Gourmands".
MONDAY - Fleury-sur-Ouche to Gissey
This morning begins your cruise back in time through the untouched Valley of the Ouche. You'll float past limestone cliffs, wooded hills and enchanting villages. After lunch on board, enjoy the first of many excursions. Richard, your Captain now becomes a trusted guide who will introduce you to the sights and history of Burgundy. You will be driven south to the famed Cote d'Or wine region. You will visit the Chateau du Clos de Vougeot where Cistercian monks started producing wine during 12th Century. Admire the ancient wine presses and learn more about wine-making and life during those days. Then return to the 21th Century and enjoy a winetasting session while introduced to the different vintages. Return to Savoir Vivre. Later you'll be transferred to dinner at the lovely nearby restaurant of “Le Bistrot des Moines at Abbaye De La Bussiere."
TUESDAY - Gissey to La Bussiere - Market Day in Dijon
After breakfast on board featuring village-baked pastries just warm from the oven, head back to Dijon to mingle with locals at the famed outdoor market. There will be time to look around the well-preserved medieval town core and shop! Lunch onboard Savoir Vivre and an afternoon cruise through gorgeous scenery to La Bussiere-sur-Ouche. Relax on deck or explore by bicycle; let's meet the barge at the next lock! Explore the subtle charms of La Brussiere before preparing for dinner tonight at the highly regarded restaurant, "Ferme de Rolle".
WEDNESDAY - La Bussiere to Pont D'Ouche
This morning, easy and relaxing cruise to Pont d'ouche. After lunch aboard, sightseeing takes center stage as you head to enchanting Beaune - wine capital of the Cote d'Or. There's much to enjoy in Beaune; most important is the immaculately preserved Hospice de Beaune, a charity hospital built in the 15th century (and which treated patients until the early 20th century!). There will be free time to explore the shops or stop at a cafe. Return to the barge late afternoon, then relax until we drive you to "Le Spuller", your restaurant for this evening.
THURSDAY - Pont d’Ouche to La Repe
After a peaceful start to your day we visit Ferme de Poisset, an authentic cheesemaker. Yes, you'll learn and then you'll taste! After all, you are in France! Return to Savoir Vivre; walk or bike along the towpath up to the nearby village - or just relax on deck with a good book - as Savoir Vivre continues its journey on the historic Canal de Bourgogne to La Repe. Tonight you will dine at "L'Oree du Bois", an authentic "creperie" located in the heart of Chateauneuf en Auxois. Before dinner enjoy a glass of wine at the stunning lookout point.
FRIDAY - La Repe to Escommes
After breakfast on board, we visit the lovely medieval village and chateau of Chateauneuf-en-Auxois perched high on a hill overlooking the canal. Explore the cobblestoned streets, peek into private gardens, and then tour the haunting chateau. Return to Savoir Vivre for a drink on deck and then continue our cruise through the Valley of the Ouche to our final mooring in Escommes. Your final on-shore dinner is at "Chez Camille" in Arnay le Duc. Now is the right time to share memories of your authentic encounters with the people, cuisine, wine and sights of Burgundy.
SATURDAY - Escommes to Dijon
At 9:00 am after breakfast, you will be chauffeured to Dijon train station. We hope you will keep lifetime memories of your cruise on board Savoir Vivre!
On alternate weeks the cruise will be in the reverse direction. This is a sample itinerary and is subject to change.

meals during Savoir Vivre cruise:
We collect you from Dijon train station or local hotel and deliver you and your luggage aboard Savoir Vivre. We also return you after your cruise.
A continental breakfast buffet is served every morning including village-baked croissants and breads, cereals, fruit, meats, cheese etc., with fresh ground coffee, tea and fruit juices. Local chef prepared lunches including a selection of salads, quiches, pates, cheese and desserts as well as a daily 'pièce de résistance'. All fare is fresh and, most importantly to us, seasonal and authentic. Daily dinners off the barge at a different authentic local restaurant. This includes your selection from the 'Menu' carte and 1/2 bottle wine per person selected by the crew. You will be accompanied and settled in the restaurant and then collected later. A complimentary 'Open Bar and Refrigerator' stocked with soft drinks, wines, beers, house selected spirits and a selection of snacks. Daily chauffeured and guided excursions to local places of interest in our dedicated minivan. All entrance fees to places visited. Use of on board bicycles which have panniers for carrying any purchases.
